Inactivity, and if we should close the server

I'll start by saying that Ion checks out the server logs pretty often, and so he sees that people do come on, but not often at the same time. Do you guys just play alone for a while, and then leave until you can next come on? Are you playing different games, or find other servers to just be better? (Especially due to more players on other servers.) Whatever the reason we'd like to get a tally of who does and doesn't play on the server anymore before seriously considering closing the server. We'll leave this notice up for a few weeks or more depending on if we get any responses.

Thanks everyone.

So.... what happened to the world?

Well, I'll tell you. I went to get on today, and was greeted with an odd new location. I could have sworn I was at my home. No matter, I used /home bed. It... didn't work. I used /home sunshine (the home to my not-so-secret lair) and was again greeted with strange terrain. All in all, me and AJ determined the world was new, and I checked the logs.

I was greeted with this. After the server had enough of those glitches it decided to restart, and upon restart it regenerated the world. I'd thought the server had been automatically saving backups, but it seems I've been gravely mistaken. Unless one of you somehow stole a copy the previous world is now lost without a trace. There is no going back... I feel bad not only for those who had a lot of time invested, but those who've just come back. I'm sorry that your brand new houses have been destroyed.

So what'll we do now? Move on in a new world. I know we previously were allowing the use of creative and WorldEdit, but I think that hurt the longevity and connection in the server. Why would anyone bother building with resources and time if they could just whip it up nice and easy? Even with resources you could fly making building a million times easier. That's all changed. We're going back down to simpler times where everyone is on the same field. From now on we'll be using survival, and the usage of /time, /fly, and /gamemode are done. However, I fixed not having access to weather commands. You can use those.

I know some of you really enjoyed the ease of building with creative, and I'd like to preserve that. I'll be researching some MultiWorld and MultiInv plugins, but I'll need both to make it work. Another new addition is GriefPrevention which is replacing WorldEdit. It's much easier to use, and has tons of videos you can watch to understand how it works. Upon placing your first chest it'll create a quite large region around you that will protect people from breaking, placing, or using containers. They can still interact with buttons, doors, and such so be careful.

Now, here's the rest along with the TL;DR (but this is important, so read it all please):

  • The server has killed the old world, and I don't have any saves because I failed to double check backups.
  • Creative and WorldEdit are no longer usable, but I'm researching having a creative world.
  • /tpa, /back, and /home are still available.
  • WorldGuard is replaced by GriefPrevention
    • Placing your first chest after logging on automatically creates a relatively large claim which prevents others from breaking/placing without permission.
    • The tool to make a claim is an iron shovel. Type /help GriefPrevention for all the commands, or go watch some videos.
    • To check for claims where you are standing use a stick. Corners have glowstone, and edges are dotted with gold blocks. They're not permanent and right/left clicking will make them go away.
  • Creepers can break blocks except in claims (please be mindful of the environment, and try to clean up the scenery)
  • KeepInv is off, and others can pick up your stuff. Be careful! Killing without following rules will be punished.
  • Rules are updated! You can use /rules or go to the page on the site.

Again, thank you for your patience, and I hope we all enjoy this new map together. I'll be putting together a spawn town soon.

LEGO® Worlds

On Steam I saw Imagine just got this... and oh man. I'm personally incredibly excited. The game is currently in Early Access ($15), but looks very nice so far. It appears to be a Minecraft-like game, and I'm not sure if it will include multiplayer. Whatever the case I will probably get this game into my library soon.

Link to the game on the Steam Store.

New Group Image

I put this together in about 20 minutes featuring some of the games I currently know multiples of us play and that I have screenshots of. Thought perhaps you'd all enjoy it, so here it is.

Perhaps a couple of you could send some screenshots of what you play to ferfatureludude@gmail.com and I'll see what I can put together.

New Year, Old Style

Ion and Build talked and discovered what they feel has contributed to the constant decline of activity on the server. Go vote on whether or not you support their logic/reasoning, and discuss in the comments. The post is located in the Imagine Nation Server forum sub-category, and is pinned so it should be easy to find.

Don't forget to enjoy the new year,

New World

After waiting for votes it was pretty clear people agreed on a new world. (A note to those on the site: I also asked on Steam via our Steam group and got a few answers in private chat.) As of today we have another fresh start, but now with all the features of 1.8.

I wish you all luck with your building a crafting, and try to remember the current rules still apply. (Watch out of for that building distance rule.) Maybe without tp or keepinv people will build closer to each other.

For those wishing to shared coordinates, screenshots, or anything else here's a link to the forum thread you can use. See you all around!

A Corrupted World

Ladies and gentlemen,

I bring this sad announcement to you today that our world may be broken. The most recent update of Minecraft included temples deep undersea with promises of treasures and guardians. Jeb had it planned that upon updating the world would automatically integrate this future causing no issues.

I think we have an issue. Just a few minutes ago I generated a new world under a different name on the server. It ran perfectly even at max view distance. Earlier I could not play our current world on render distance 2 for more than a minute, and with Ion on it was hopeless. Play for 15-30 seconds, lose connection from lag, wait for server to catch up, and repeat. Our massive world may also be a contributing factor.

I thought this was something we could avoid, but it appears that's not possible. Please comment whether or not you want to try and save the world in 1.7.9 or just simply switch to 1.8 in a new world.

If we switch to a new world I will post the current version of the world and the most recent backup which will at least preserve most in a non-corrupted form. I know a lot of us put much work into that world.
