A note to the Operators (especially Twist)

When I checked on the server after coming home from school, I realized the server was shut down (using the normal shut down sequence, including the world saving). Since this was odd (I had not shut down the server before hand), I looked earlier in the console box ad noticed Twister was up to his usual "nuke party". He was basically spamming my console with /nuke commands. Apart from spam, it also uses a lot of RAM, even if nothing really does blow up, the computer has to think of dropping the TNT, making it blow (even though it doesn't cause terrain damage), etc. I believe this used so much RAM that the server sorta went "Overload, automatic shutdown".

In conclusion, operators, do not use /nuke, /kittycannon, /tnt, or any other explosive-related command unless absolutely necessary.

That is all! Good day!

*EDIT* I just rechecked my console and it shut itself down again due to a lack of memory (OutofMemoryError). I don't know whats going on. This could be a lasting bug, I'm working hard on correcting it. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

*RE-EDIT* This problem is bigger than I thought, I've posted a thread on the Bukkit forums asking for help, cross your fingers :)

*Another Edit* I tried something different now, I took out the world file and made Bukkit create a new one, surprisingly enough, the server worked great with the new world folder! This is making me a bit nervous though, because the second I swapped the worlds again and put back the original file, everything went downhill. This means the problem is hidden inside the main world folder...

  5. I had idea! :D

Remember in the 1.1 world how many issues we had with the amount of worlds on the server? I think the new ones we are making have added too much memory, and that we should delete some. We should definately keep the Creative, End, and Nether worlds, but IDK about the LEGO one. I know nobody here wants to get rid of it, but I would rather have the server than an extra world.

    1. Lol unless we delete the main world, it will make no difference, the secondary worlds are puny compared to it :P

    1. Not a bad idea. I'll consider it as a last resort.

    2. Okay. Chests would still have their items right?

  8. OMG I THOUGHT OF SOMETHING

Normally chunks that we discovered would not be loaded while nobody is there, but with that map showing everything as it happens, does it load discovered chunks? If so, maybe it is causing all those problems. It didn't seem like the world was a problem until that was installed, but it's probably because of something else.

    1. I don't think this has anything to do with a plugin, Dynmap has loaded maps 10 times larger than ours (I've seen servers like this). And I don't think it has to do with the size of the map either. It might have to do with a large... OMG I might know whats wrong!

      Here is my theory:
Twist made TNT drop in the middle of the ocean, the computer thinks there's a huge hole the so water starts pouring down it, using massive amounts of RAM (falling water is a RAM killer). As soon as the computer generates that ocean/lake, the server can't handle whats happening.

Twist, can you tell me if this is true, more or less?

    2. No, water is considered a block and TNT does not damage it. He has dropped TNT in water many times and this never happened before. Also, I was online by myself when it crashed, and I never left the house. I stayed on for about an hour and a half.

    3. If the world crashes the server, then it is because you have too much happening (i.e. tnt). Remember when we made an entire island tnt? It crashed the server and you had to delete the world to just let the server run. I say it it the mass amount of tnt.

  9. I upgraded my conputer :) I now have 8GB RAM.

  10. SACHA!!!!
i'm almost sure that i know the solution!!
the computer can't handle all the TNT that twist dropped in the ocean.
u can delete TNT entities with MCEdit.
it's kinda hard to use at first but u will get used to it.
u just select a region and click "Delete Entities"
    download it here:
    https://github.com/mcedit/mcedit/downloads
choose the one for the appropriate OS
for u it would be mac.
hopefully MCEdit can fix this problem
i know u can do it SACHA!!

    1. Mine... THATS BRILLIANT!
Supposing the TNT is still there, I can actually get rid of it!

I'll attempt to get rid of it, because I already have MCEdit actually.
      I'll post my results ASAP.
