Minecraft Server Migration

Here are a few plans I have for the server. These are not big plans for going public, these are plans for getting our nice server back like it used to, because I agree with you guys that we shouldn't worry about big servers until we have our old server back. So all information is about bringing BACK our old server. Once we have that, we can start working on changes and maybe going public, but right now we have enough on our plates :)

Time

I am planning on setting up ads next Wednesday (April 3). I will also try to put a donation widget on the side of the website so you guys can start donating. I was thinking that once we receive $4 in donations, we could open the server again. The $4 would be enough to host a 256MB or 1/4GB server for one month. The reason I am starting small is because when we are just starting our server back up again we don't need lots of RAM. This small package of 1/4GB of RAM is just enough to support 6 players at a time, which is plenty enough. Of course, there are other factors that could reduce it, such as plugins and world sizes, but for the moment I think this amount of RAM is good. After a month goes by, I hope that we will be getting at least $10+ a month in ads, which is enough to upgrade to 3/4GB of RAM at the very least.
So it is mostly up to when it opens. If you cannot or do not want to donate, that is perfectly fine. We will just see what we get. If after about a week I don't get anything, then perhaps I will donate $4 to open the server up. So we are looking at no later than April 7th, but I won't make any promises.
Also, now would be a good time to tell me if you ever plan to donate to the server ;)

World

Right now our priority is bringing back the old server. So this server will have the same world as we had before. However, we are going to have to talk later about things such as new worlds and borders, but for now, just be happy to know that the old world is going to on the server. Also, be reassured that the old world is going to always stay on the server since we have all put so much work in it. New ones may come, but the old one will stay :)

Plugins

I am going to try to bring back all old plugins that we used, but some I won't bother with. I don't have a list to give you know, but I am thinking of plugins like CityGates which, last I checked, is inactive and incompatible. But do not worry, the major plugins will stay: Grief Prevention, Essentials, World Edit, Machina Craft, etc. If I find a plugin that we don't use anymore or no longer works, I will tell you that I am not migrating it on to the server. Unless I say otherwise, expect to be able to do all that you do :D Later on we can discuss what plugins to keep and what we want to add.

Economy

Perhaps the biggest change in the minecraft server migration (like the term I gave this event?) is the economy. The economy was severely flawed and many exploits were discovered. Many players were able to quickly become rich. The problem really isn't with the players, though, because it is our fault, IN, for not fixing the problem. Because of this, all economies will be reset to 0. Also, at the beginning economy will be disabled. You can still trade items for items (2 gold ingot for 29 apples) but you won't be able to trade with in-game cash (2 gold ingots for $180). I am sorry that you all have to lose your in-game cash but I believe this is the best solution until we set up an economy. But be reassured that I will strive to transfer over your inventories and all chests you own will still have all your items from before.

I want to thank you all for sticking with IN despite the hardships we have faced. Thank you for being very patient for the server. Soon we will have it again. While you wait hopefully for just a little bit more, I recommend you go play on Mine's Server, MineCore. Looks like it will be a great server until IN is back online. In the comments, you can also list some of your favorite servers and we could hang out there. Perhaps we could have meetings on them just like in the old days.
Also, don't think this is all my ideas on the server. I will continue to post about the server. Right now I am focused just on getting the old server back online. After that, we can start proposing changes, if we even want them, but for now the focus is on getting the server.
