As you may or may not know, I'm running IN's server from a Mac computer with 4 GB of RAM. 2 of which I allocate to the server. Now the problem is, it slows my computer down. A lot.
My parents are getting... annoyed.
I have options. None of which are ideal but some better than others:
#1 - Reduce server RAM usage (1 GB instead of 2);
#2 - Reduce player capacity (4 players/time instead of 8);
#3 - Find another game and shut this whole thing down completely.
Personally I would go with #1, but I suggest we make a poll on the subject.

I would say to keep it at 5 though... So option 2 is probably the best...

does getting rid of mods speed up the server? We really don't need so many commands if that saves the server

The server is on less often. For example, a certain period where the server is on, for a random example, 5AM-6PM (random remember).
We could get the server supported. This means a company runs the server for us. However, we would need to spend lots of money and I don't think we want to do that.
Some of the extra stuff I added as some options that we won't do but I just offered them even though they are like, 0% likely
I don't like that LU closed, but now we know how hard running a server is. Imagine running 2 million :O
ReplyDeletejust so you guys know, I vote that the server is reduced. RAM reduced or mods gone. I wouldn't like to part with multiworld, for example, but one world is large, so if it made the server speed up, lets do it. The one plugin/mod I wouldn't want gone is world edit.
ReplyDeleteyou guys can quit the server and go to a new game, but I just want you to know that I am sticking to minecraft, so if we go to a new game, I will disappear from IN most likely since all I will be able to do is post on the site but never play.

DeleteAnd yes, I think less mods/plugins does help the server. Here is another thing that effects it's speed: worlds.
The more worlds we have the worse. If we are 5 online at a time in 5 different worlds, we are basically asking the terrain generator to load 5 times more, make the server 5 times slower.
And I don't recommend shutting down the server...

Deleteya, I would vote that we get rid of many of our worlds. We can go ahead and get rid of my story world. Other plugins deleted could free up space too ;)

Hey Red, if we do get rid of Corruption Clan's World (Not saying I want to get rid of it btw) Royal could always make a copy of the main world which you could pretty much do the same thing where there is another Tower filled with enemies and stuff :D. I also had a pretty epic Story Idea that I will post about after this server issue is over that could tie into yours! Also, if it helps to know this, I would offer to host the server if Royal's internet can't (Also not saying I WANT to run the server but I will if there is no other way, last resort too btw. Cause I REALLY don't want to see the server go D:)

DeleteBut yea if you need someone else to run your server Royal I could :D! And even if I run it you still stay as the dude who made the server, I would just be the guy who hosts it. So it's kinda like if you're an author and I'm publishing your book, the server still belongs to you! This of course would be a last resort and I hope we can figure out a way to keep the server goin! :D

ReplyDeleteI think we just ought to get rid of some of the worlds and use less mods. We can always use even one world since you can just move far away and set a warp there if you want to be alone.
