Horses Coming to IN!

Finally! Horses are added to Minecraft. These fast mobs can be tamed and ridden for amazing speed or large  jumps! Or store your items on a donkey. Among them are colored clay, carpets, and harder mobs. Name your pets with a name tag and keep them close by with a tether. All of this and more in the 1.6 update. Of course, you probably already played 5 hours of this amazing addition to Minecraft already, so why go on?
Unfortunately, you won't be able to ride horse quite yet on the server. While there is a very early development version of Bukkit available, almost none of our plugins are updated yet. So I would say that we will need to wait about one more week until Bukkit catches up. Until then, you can use the new Minecraft launcher to downgrade to 1.5 until we are ready!
Do not worry, however, of a server reset. The Horse update does not include any world generation changes. When it is installed on the server, it should run smoothly without any trouble.

  1. Imagine? Can the download for the new Launcher work on Mac? Because Sacha, Robot and I have macs...

  2. 2 things-

Most plugins will not require an update. If you have a test server, load the plugins on there and see which ones work.

Horses only can spawn in newly generated chunks, which would require us to go farther out/reset the world :( One idea people have been having is to WE important structures into a new 1.6 world.

    1. 1. Good to know. Maybe I will load up the development build so we can go ahead and play 1.6
      2. Hmmm...well that is true. I don't know, we would have to all decide what to do. It may be good to have only one world with no border that could work for all survival needs. Not saying we will, but is one idea. We simply need to talk about it.

  3. Smart's saying about horses generating in only new chunks is proved wrong. I found the following wiki page that SUGGESTS but does not prove his theory. I have proved it wrong in fact which is a good thing.

Here is the wiki page: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Talk:Horse#horses_do_they_spawn_natrauly

I have proved that horses CAN spawn in OLD CHUNKS and obviously new chunks as well. As many of you know, I am a programmer (sorta but I'm 14 and it's not a job :P). I have access to the Minecraft source code. I looked through it and I found that the server tick processor DOES generate horses as a rare chance through ALL chunks. If it only worked for new chunks, then the region files (world folder\<DIM1\region | DIM-1\region | region\r.*.*.mca) would contain data that determines whether they can generate horses. I have a program to look at the data inside those files and it does not contain any data about horses. Therefore, horses CAN generate in any chunk as long as it's biome is PLAINS. I have not proved this in-game but I have proved it in the best way: Access and understanding of the Minecraft source code. It is not necessary to start a new world just for horses but obviously we leave that up to the IN to choose.

In conclusion of this LONG comment, HORSES CAN SPAWN IN ANY CHUNKS (NEW OR OLD).

Smart, I see what you say. If you can, please give me the link to the source of where you found that it says horses can only spawn in new chunks. I need to see it because that theory is wrong.

    2. Oh of course I know that :P. I don't believe everything I hear on YouTube, even if it's from paulsoaresjr. He's USUALLY right but occasionally he makes mistakes such as in this example. Luckily, I know how to read the game's source code :P, and I can understand pretty much everything EXCEPT the LWJGL (Light Weight Java Game Library) stuff. Minecraft uses that as a reference for extra stuff the game needs in its code. That's why you see "lwjgl.jar" and "lwjgl_util.jar" in "%AppData%\.minecraft\bin". I know what I'm saying may be hard to understand :P. Anyways, final answer:

HORSES CAN SPAWN IN ANY CHUNKS. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER THEY ARE NEW OR OLD!!!!!!!

    3. Oh and knowing this do you think we should start a new world or keep the old one?
